Shyam Prasad Mukherjee is the leader who strived for unity of the country-Gopal Roa

As part of Dr Shyam Prasad Mukherjee's death anniversary on Thursday, the BJP's Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency paid floral tributes to Kanaka Temple in Hinakkal village

Later, senior BJP leader Gopal Rao Mukherjee was a prominent voice against the persecution of Hindus in the post-independence era. The Jana Sangh Party described the great leader who sacrificed his life for the Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir.

Patriotism was evident in every action and speech. At every step, he came up with the strongest opposition to the division of the country by evil forces. His love and concern for the unity of the country, he said, would give every Indian an immense respect for him.

The Chamundeshwari constituency president, Gejagadhali Mahesh spoke and Mukherjee resigned from the Nehru-led cabinet on policy and principle. It was Shyam Prasad Mukherjee, the first Indian leader of Independence who sacrificed his ministerial portfolio. When the situation in the country worsened, political instability and administrative derailment, he sang for a new party called the Indian Jana Sangh.
